The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has condemned the recruitment of 89 unskilled labourers from Katsina State to work at the Dangote Refinery in Lagos, calling it a breach of labour laws and a threat to local security.
A viral video showed the men arriving in a truck, prompting public concern. Police later confirmed they were hired workers.
Lagos NLC Chairperson, Funmi Sessi, said the law requires at least 70% of such jobs to go to locals. “This is unacceptable. Dangote has done this before, bringing in outsiders and even foreigners,” she said.
She urged the Lagos State Government and Ministry of Labour to act, warning of a possible national labour action.
The refinery said the workers came through a vendor and that it is investigating the matter.
