The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), alongside other security agencies, has arrested 90 foreign nationals in Rivers State for alleged involvement in cybercrime.
Rivers State Comptroller of NIS, Y.I. Abdulmajeed, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Tuesday. The operation, based on credible intelligence, targeted a hideout where the suspects were engaging in cybercriminal activities designed to defraud Nigerians.
Among the 94 individuals arrested were 85 Cameroonians, five Chadians, and four Nigerians. The group included 74 males and 20 females. NIS officials discovered that all 90 foreign nationals entered Nigeria through unauthorized routes and lacked proper travel documents or residence permits. Additionally, two Nigerians accused of providing accommodation to the foreigners were also apprehended.
Comptroller Abdulmajeed stated that the Comptroller General of NIS, Kemi Nandap, has ordered an immediate and comprehensive investigation, with a focus on the prompt prosecution of all suspects.
