The NDLEA has destroyed 1.6 million kilograms of illicit drugs — the largest single destruction in its history.
The substances, seized from Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo states, were burnt on Saturday at Ipara, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, witnessed by government officials, traditional rulers, clergymen, security agencies, NGOs, and international partners.
Items destroyed included 1.4m kg of cannabis, 123 kg of cocaine, 46.8 kg of heroin, 148,000 kg of codeine syrup, 3,244 kg of tramadol, 1,544 kg of skuchies, and 111 kg of methamphetamine.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), said the move reinforces the agency’s commitment to ending drug trafficking in Nigeria. “There is no safe haven for traffickers,” he said.
Over 10,500 drug offenders have been convicted in the last four years, according to Marwa. He thanked partners and state governments for their continued support, adding that every substance destroyed had passed through legal procedures, including court approval.
