Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of orchestrating her removal to silence her and others who challenge the Senate leadership. In a recent interview, she said her suspension wasn’t about a seat dispute but a planned move after she raised a matter of privilege, which Akpabio abruptly shut down.
She described her suspension as unlawful and humiliating, saying Akpabio acted beyond his powers. Natasha believes the action was retaliation after she submitted a petition against the leadership, claiming the ethics report used against her was only an excuse to silence her.
Natasha also revealed that Akpabio pressured her for political and financial favours while she chaired the Senate Committee on Local Content. When she refused, tensions grew, and she was eventually suspended. She warned that many other senators face similar pressures but remain silent.
The Senate has not responded to her claims. Natasha’s revelations have reignited calls for accountability and reform in the National Assembly.
