Muslim Council Bans Wedding Parties in Jalingo

0

The Muslim Council in Taraba State has banned Muslims in Jalingo from holding certain types of wedding parties.

The council said the decision followed consultations with imams, traditional rulers, and local authorities. Events affected include Kauyawa and Ajo parties, where youths often dress in torn clothes and dance late into the night.

Chief Imam of Mayo Gwoi Jummat Mosque, Tajudeen Nuhu, who announced the decision on behalf of the council, said no imam will conduct marriage rites for households that defy the ban. Clerics have also been instructed not to attend funerals, naming ceremonies, or wedding lectures in such homes.

The council warned that imams who ignore the directive will face disciplinary action, including removal from their positions.

It explained that the ban aims to promote discipline, morality, and respect for Islamic values within the community.
