In a harrowing ordeal, Maimuna Gawu, a pregnant woman from Gawu Babangida in Niger State, escaped from her abductors’ den shortly after delivering twin boys. Tragically, her captors kept the newborns, claiming they belonged to them.
Narrating her experience on a Hausa program, Tsalle Daya, aired on Prestige FM Minna, Maimuna revealed she was kidnapped on her way home from Suleja General Hospital, where she had been scheduled for delivery the next day.
According to Maimuna, she boarded a Sharon bus after her hospital visit, unaware it was operated by kidnappers. “As we approached Lambata, I told the driver where I wanted to alight, but I lost consciousness shortly after,” she recounted.
When she regained consciousness, she found herself in an unknown location, hooked to a drip. Hours later, she went into labour and delivered twin boys in the early hours of the morning. However, when she woke up again and asked for her babies, she was told by another woman that the twins were not hers and were now the captors’ property.
Despite her physical weakness, Maimuna managed to escape that night when her captors were distracted. She fled through the dark and eventually reached Kagara, Rafi Local Government Area.
When contacted, the spokesman for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said he would confirm the incident and provide updates.
This heart-wrenching incident has left many shocked, highlighting the rising insecurity in the region and the resilience of a mother determined to survive against all odds.
