Vice President Kashim Shettima has confirmed the deployment of a battalion of Nigerian Army troops to the forests of Kwara State following last week’s deadly attack in Woro, Kaiama Local Government Area.
The incident claimed over 100 lives with many still missing several days after.Shettima, leading a Federal Government delegation on a condolence visit to Ilorin on Saturday, said the security move was aimed at neutralising the threat and restoring peace to affected communities.
He described the massacre as an unacceptable violation of the right of citizens to live and practise their faith peacefully, noting that the scale of the killings had shocked Nigerians.
The Vice President, who was received by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq at the Ahmadu Bello House, Ilorin, emphasised that all hands were on deck to ensure stability in Kaiama and neighbouring areas.
He assured residents that the Federal Government, in partnership with state authorities, would continue to provide security and humanitarian support.Shettima conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s condolences to the people of Kaiama and Kwara State, praying for Allah to grant eternal rest to the victims and strength to their families.
The Vice President said the Director General of NEMA had been instructed to mobilise all necessary resources to assist the distressed communities.
Accompanying Shettima on the visit were Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, Senators Ali Ndume, Emmanuel Udende and Ovie Omo-Agege, the Director General of NEMA, Mrs Zubaida Umar, and the Managing Director of Niger Delta Power Holding Company, Engr Jennifer Adighije.Governor AbdulRazaq praised the swift response of the Federal Government, including the immediate deployment of soldiers and police tactical teams to the affected areas.
He confirmed that Operation Savannah Shield troops were on the ground and working to prevent further attacks.Local leaders, including the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Muazu Sheu Omar, and Kaiama Local Government Chairman Abdullahi Abubakar Danladi, expressed appreciation for the Federal Government’s prompt intervention and for Shettima’s visit, while reiterating calls for sustained security in the region.
Governor Zulum, speaking on behalf of Northeastern states, sympathised with the people of Kwara and prayed for the departed souls, stressing that Muslims believe in destiny and trusting that such attacks would not recur.
