Suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group launched a deadly attack on Natsini village in Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, killing two policemen and rustling over 200 cows.
The incident occurred on Thursday around 11 p.m., when more than 50 armed attackers on motorcycles stormed the village. The terrorists targeted a police checkpoint along the Augie/Kangiwa road, overpowering the officers stationed there before raiding a nearby ranch for cattle.
According to locals, the stolen cows belonged to a prominent civil servant in the area, identified as Lawali Black. A witness, Abubakar Augie, shared his account: “The attackers were many, riding motorcycles. After taking out the policemen, they moved to the ranch and rustled the cows.”
The chairman of Argungu Local Government, Aliyu Gulma, confirmed the attack and stated that the council had convened a security meeting to address the situation. He added that the state government had ordered security forces to track down the perpetrators and recover the stolen livestock.
Efforts to contact the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Abubakar, for comments were unsuccessful as calls to his line went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
The incident has left residents of the area shaken, prompting renewed calls for enhanced security measures to tackle the growing threat of terrorism and banditry in the region.
