Inmates in Kano State’s custodial facilities will soon benefit from health insurance coverage following the state’s approval to enroll them in the Kano Healthcare Contributory Scheme. This initiative will provide them with access to essential and comprehensive healthcare services while in detention.

The development was announced during a visit by Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, Executive Secretary of the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KACHMA), to the Controller of Corrections for the Kano State Command, Ado Inuwa. The meeting was detailed in a statement from the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Musbahu Lawan Kofar Nasarawa.

Dr. Muktar reassured the controller of the state government’s commitment to ensuring the inmates receive the necessary medical support during their incarceration. Inuwa expressed gratitude for the government’s support, emphasizing that this gesture would inspire the inmates to strive for productivity and law-abiding behaviour after their release.

He further highlighted that the health and welfare of inmates are crucial for effective custodial management, contributing to their reformation, rehabilitation, and eventual reintegration into society.
