The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kaduna State has reported that road accidents led to 484 fatalities and 2,327 injuries from January to October 2024. Sector Commander Kabiru Yusuf Nadabo shared these figures during a press briefing for the state’s Ember Months campaign. Nadabo highlighted a slight decrease in the total number of vehicles involved in accidents compared to 2023, but noted an increase in fatalities, partly attributed to a tragic crash on Saminaka Road.
The 2024 figures mark a slight improvement in overall incidents, as accidents involved 514 vehicles compared to 719 in 2023, and the number of affected individuals has also reduced from 6,057 to 4,979. However, fatalities have risen slightly from 467 to 484, according to Nadabo, with year-end totals yet to be finalized.
The FRSC’s Ember Months campaign includes town hall meetings and motor park visits across Kaduna’s three senatorial districts to promote road safety awareness. Passengers are encouraged to advocate for safe driving practices, especially regarding speed limits. Nadabo emphasized that speeding remains a significant concern, urging drivers to practice caution during the high-traffic Ember Months as part of broader efforts to reduce road fatalities in Kaduna and beyond.
