Hamas has accepted a draft ceasefire deal as Israeli officials deliberate final terms, aiming to end over a year of conflict in Gaza.
Israeli Agriculture Minister Avi Dichter expressed hope for an agreement while affirming efforts to secure the return of hostages. However, opposition from National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who called the deal “terrible,” highlights internal government divides.
The proposed truce, brokered by the US, Qatar, and Egypt, would involve a phased cessation of hostilities. The first stage includes releasing 33 hostages, while negotiations for remaining captives are expected to follow.
Israeli forces may maintain a buffer zone in Gaza during initial phases, with full withdrawal contingent upon the hostages’ release. Mediators remain optimistic about a breakthrough despite challenges.
