The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said the petition to recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central did not meet the requirements of Section 69(a) of the 1999 Constitution.
INEC disclosed this in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, saying the petition failed to meet constitutional standards.
Reacting to the development, Akpoti-Uduaghan accused INEC of bias, claiming the commission assisted petitioners in correcting errors in their submission.
Speaking to supporters in Okehi LGA, she alleged that the petition was filed under a non-existent group, “Kogi Central Political Frontier,” and listed a fake address.
“I checked with the CAC, and the group is not registered. Why hasn’t INEC verified this?” she questioned.
The senator said the case is already in court but urged her supporters to stand firm if verification of the recall signatures proceeds.
