Gunmen Invade Kogi Community, kill 19 people, Set Houses Ablaze.

Some unknown gunmen reportedly invaded a community in the eastern part of Kogi state, killing nineteen (19) people and setting many houses on fire. Reports say Agojeju Odo community in Omala local government area of the state was the site of that unfortunate incident as residents and mourners are still counting huge losses.

Confirming the incident, the state police public relation officer, William Aya, said the yet to be identified gunmen attacked the community.

Aya said the divisional police office of the local government has informed the state headquarters that 19 people were allegedly killed while many others sustained varying degrees of injuries during the attack.

He said that more policemen have been deployed to the community and surrounding neighborhoods, assuring that the perpetrators of the heinous act will be apprehended.

Residents of the community said the gunmen attacked Agojeju Odo, while neighboring communities like Ajokpachi Odo, Bagaji all in Omala local government are presently deserted.

The communities appealed to Kogi state governor, Usman Ododo, and security agencies to come to their aid by deploying more security personnel to the area, as the police in the local government area have been overwhelmed and overpowered by the attackers.
