Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has warned he could walk away from the club if the size of his squad is not reduced this summer.
Speaking after City’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth, Guardiola said he finds it emotionally draining to leave several senior players out of the matchday squad.
“I told the club I don’t want a big squad,” he said. “Leaving five or six players out every week is impossible for my soul. If they reduce the squad, I will stay. If not, I will quit.”
Players like James McAtee, Savinho, Claudio Echeverri, Rico Lewis, and Abdukodir Khusanov were all left out of Tuesday’s 20-man squad.
Guardiola’s comments come as City look to balance depth with harmony ahead of the new season.
