The community of Kwale in Ndokwa West Local Government Area, Delta State, has been thrown into mourning following a spike in cult-related violence that left two people dead and another critically injured.
The heartbreaking incident occurred early Friday morning. One victim was gunned down near a bank, while another body was discovered at Utagba-Uno Junction. A third person, severely injured in the attack, is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
Among the deceased was a young man whose wedding was scheduled to take place that very day. Eyewitnesses revealed that he was walking with friends to buy items for the ceremony when he was ambushed by suspected cultists.
“He was full of excitement, preparing for his wedding. None of us could have imagined such a tragedy,” an eyewitness said, speaking anonymously.
The fiancée, along with family and friends, has been left shattered by the devastating loss, as what was meant to be a joyous celebration turned into a nightmare.
Efforts to reach the police for comments proved futile, but security forces have increased patrols and set up checkpoints across Kwale in an attempt to prevent further violence.
The resurgence of cult activities has created a tense atmosphere in the community, with residents expressing fear as the festive season approaches.
“People are scared to move freely,” one resident said. “This isn’t just about cultism anymore; kidnappings and other crimes are on the rise. We’re pleading for immediate action.”
Community leaders are urging law enforcement agencies to redouble efforts to curb cult violence and restore peace in the area. They also encouraged residents to report suspicious activities promptly to help prevent more lives from being lost.
The tragedy underscores the urgent need for intensified security measures in Kwale to protect lives and restore a sense of normalcy.
