The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has linked the recent grid collapse to a sequence of line and generator trips that disrupted electricity supply across the country on Tuesday afternoon.
The grid collapse occurred around 2 p.m., causing a halt in electricity generation nationwide. Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, explained in a statement that the partial disturbance in the grid began at approximately 1:52 p.m., though some parts of the grid remained unaffected.
“TCN engineers are already working to swiftly restore bulk power supply to the affected areas,” Mbah stated. “As of 2:49 p.m., power has been restored to Abuja, and we are gradually bringing other regions back online.”
The TCN apologized for the disruption, expressing regret over the inconvenience caused to electricity consumers.
