A devastating fire at an Islamiya school in Kaura-Namoda LGA, Zamfara State, has claimed the lives of 17 Almajiri students. The blaze broke out late Tuesday night and raged for nearly three hours, injuring 16 others. Local resident Abdulrasaq Bello Kaura attributed the inferno to the ignition of stored sticks, known locally as “kara.”
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire engulfed the study hall at Makaranta Mallam Ghali, where about 100 students were housed. Although the students were initially evacuated, rescuers later discovered the charred remains of the victims inside. The 17 deceased have since been laid to rest.
Kaura-Namoda LGA Chairman, Comrade Mannir Muazu Haidara, confirmed the incident and said he is on his way to the scene to provide additional details.
