The Federal Government has announced that many states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will begin implementing the new national minimum wage by January 2025. The Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, made this known during a meeting with the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCN) in Abuja.
Dingyadi urged patience from workers, noting that only a few states have fully complied with the new wage structure, while others are at various stages of implementation. The FCT has committed to full compliance by January, though some unions have expressed a desire for immediate implementation.
The Minister acknowledged unresolved issues, including those involving federal agencies and the Office of the Accountant General, promising thorough and amicable resolutions. He emphasized the importance of dialogue and peaceful negotiations in addressing concerns raised by unions.
Dingyadi assured the union of the government’s commitment to fostering stability and improving workers’ welfare.
