The Federal Government has responded to remarks by the 16th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II, who recently stated he would not support President Bola Tinubu’s administration due to strained relations.

Sanusi made the statement during the 21st Gani Fawehinmi Annual Lecture in Lagos, saying, “They don’t behave like friends.” In response, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the government does not require Sanusi’s approval for its policies, which have been widely recognized as necessary for national progress.

Idris highlighted key reforms, including the unification of exchange rates and the removal of fuel subsidies, as vital steps toward economic stability. He noted that these measures are already yielding results, such as increased investor confidence and more resources for critical sectors.

The minister urged national leaders to prioritize unity and constructive dialogue over personal grievances, emphasizing the need for collective effort to rebuild Nigeria.

“This is not a time for divisive rhetoric,” Idris said. “It is a time for collaboration to achieve a prosperous Nigeria.”
