The federal government and the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) are meeting again today in Abuja over the planned nationwide strike set for Thursday.

The NMA had issued a 21-day ultimatum to the government on July 2, demanding urgent action on key issues affecting doctors and the healthcare system. That ultimatum expires on Wednesday.

NMA President, Prof Bala Audu, said yesterday’s talks went well and that two of their demands have already been met.

“If things continue this way, we may not go on strike,” he told Daily Trust. Another meeting is scheduled for Thursday.

The ongoing talks involve top government officials, including those from the Ministries of Health, Labour, Budget, and the NSIWC.
