A staff member of the FCT Department of Land Administration, Mairiga Hassan Shahru, has been arrested and queried for allegedly leaking official documents tied to land allocations.
The documents, allegedly linked to the sons of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, sparked online controversy. Wike has denied the claims, calling them politically motivated and baseless.
The FCT Police Commissioner confirmed Shahru’s arrest, saying he may face prosecution. However, he has since been released on bail.
Rights activists Omoyele Sowore and Deji Adeyanju condemned the arrest, calling it a witch-hunt and demanding transparency in land matters. Shahru was accused of misconduct, including breaching the oath of secrecy.
The FCTA says disciplinary action is being considered, while Wike insists no land was allocated to his children and challenged critics to produce evidence.
