Police in Pakistan have arrested a man for allegedly killing his teenage daughter after she refused to stop posting videos on TikTok.
Authorities in Quetta said the suspect, who had recently returned with his family from the United States, admitted to shooting the girl after she ignored his warnings to dress more modestly and stop uploading what the family deemed “inappropriate” content.
Local police chief Babar Baloch confirmed the incident, describing it as an “honour killing.” Cases like this remain prevalent in Pakistan, with the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) estimating that nearly 1,000 women are killed each year by family members under the guise of protecting family honour.
Despite legal reforms in 2016 aimed at restricting pardons for perpetrators, activists say the practice continues due to legal loopholes that allow families to forgive offenders.
