A coalition of civil society organizations in Edo State has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Nigeria Police, Edo State Command, to clarify the circumstances surrounding the death of Comrade Kaduna Eboigbodin, a former Edo State NLC chairman, at a police checkpoint.

The African Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ) Executive Director, Rev. David Ugolor, alleged that police aggression at the checkpoint led to Eboigbodin’s death. According to the deceased’s wife, officers seized his car documents despite compliance and attempted to tow his vehicle. The tension escalated, and Eboigbodin collapsed.

Witnesses claimed officers fled, leaving bystanders to rush him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Edo Civil Society Organizations (EDOCSO) called for an investigation and accountability for the officers involved.

However, reports suggest Eboigbodin appeared distressed, left his vehicle to make a call, and collapsed. The Edo police spokesperson, Moses Yamu, has promised a statement on the matter today.
