The Northern Youth Assembly and the Inter-Tribe Community Support Forum have described as misinformation the claim linking the tragic death of an Anambra State indigene, Peter Chukwudi Nwanosike, in Kano to the extrajudicial killing of 16 northern travelers in Uromi, Edo State.

The Coordinator of the Inter-Tribe Community Support Forum, Nworisa Michael, speaking at a joint press conference, expressed regret over the Uromi killings and debunked claims linking Nwanosike’s death, who hails from Abagana in Anambra State, to a retaliatory attack for the Uromi incident.

“Contrary to widespread speculation, Mr. Nwanosike was not killed in a reprisal attack. He was a victim of phone snatchers, commonly known as yan kwacen waya, on March 30, 2025. After personally visiting his family, we confirmed that he collapsed while fleeing from his attackers and was not stabbed, as falsely reported,” he clarified.

The groups emphasized that the spread of fake news could escalate tensions and cause unnecessary panic.

They further commended Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his swift intervention in maintaining peace and preventing reprisals.

The groups also acknowledged the visit of the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, to Kano as a crucial step toward promoting unity and ensuring justice is served.
