The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has suspended its planned nationwide strike, giving the Federal Government a fresh 21-day ultimatum to meet its demands.

The NMA had earlier threatened to down tools if issues like welfare, retirement age, and reversal of a controversial circular on allowances were not addressed.

Following meetings with government officials, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed. However, many NMA members rejected the proposed timelines, calling them unrealistic.

“Some delegates called for a total shutdown,” NMA spokesperson Dr Mannir Bature told Daily Trust. “But after appeals, we gave the government 21 more days — this is the final warning.”

The countdown began on Saturday, July 6.
