An FCT High Court has granted bail to the former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, in the sum of N500 million following allegations of money laundering amounting to N110.4 billion.
Justice Maryanne Aninih, delivering the ruling on Thursday, ordered Bello to provide two notable Nigerians as sureties with properties in specific high-brow areas of Abuja. Additionally, Bello must deposit his travel documents with the court registrar and remain in custody at the Nigerian Correctional Service in Kuje until he meets the bail conditions.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had filed a 16-count charge against Bello and two former state officials, accusing them of misusing state funds to acquire properties in Abuja and Dubai. Justice Aninih had previously declined Bello’s bail request on December 10, citing procedural reasons.
The court emphasized compliance with the bail terms as the legal proceedings continue.
