The Kogi state government has announced they tested and confirmed two suspected cases of cholera and have, therefore, set up a response team to curb the spread of the disease in the state.
The state commissioner for health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, made the revelation at the ministry of health complex after he inaugurated the response team. The commissioner said the state has, so far, had minimal impact from the disease but are not letting anything to chance to curtail the spread.
He also said the state has put in place, strong measures for surveillance, provided extensive trainings to health workers and have a robust sensitization campaign to educate the citizens and residents on how to best protect themselves.
“Fortunately, one case has already been discharged, and the other is currently undergoing treatment, with no fatalities recorded.”
“We have equipped our healthcare workers with the necessary training and resources to ensure a swift and effective response to any potential outbreaks.”
“Citizens are encouraged to uphold good hygiene practices, such as regular handwashing and consumption of clean water”, he said.
The commissioner encouraged residents to lend a hand to the officials and report suspected cases promptly.
