Former President Muhammadu Buhari is dead.
His spokesman, Garba Shehu, confirmed this via a post on his X handle.
“The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, this afternoon in a clinic in London.
May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin.” Shehu wrote.
Buhari served as Nigeria’s civilian president from 2015 to 2023, following an earlier tenure as military head of state from 1983 to 1985.
Born on December 17, 1942, in Daura, Buhari was known for his strong anti-corruption stance and was widely respected by his military peers as a disciplined officer.
