Boko Haram insurgents struck Shikarkir community in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State early Thursday, setting fire to homes and a church, residents confirmed.

This attack came just a day after the terrorists invaded Bazir village, also in Chibok, killing two residents and destroying another church. While police confirmed the Bazir incident, ASP Nahum Daso, spokesperson for the state command, stated he had not yet received information regarding the Shikarkir assault.

“Security has been reinforced, and intelligence gathering is underway,” Daso assured, emphasizing that the police are coordinating with other security agencies to restore calm.

Residents described harrowing scenes during the early morning raid. Mallam Daniel Shikarkir, whose home was burned, expressed gratitude that his elderly parents escaped unhurt.

Paul Mauntah Yaga, a local resident, took to social media to express his community’s concerns. “Despite the presence of hundreds of security personnel and vigilantes, these attacks persist. We urge our leaders and security agencies to intensify efforts in protecting our people,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, in Dumba, Kukawa Local Government Area, where Boko Haram recently ambushed farmers, local sources said bodies of over 40 victims remained unrecovered due to inaccessible terrain. Survivors who fled described harrowing scenes and reported missing persons still unaccounted for.

Military efforts reportedly rescued 271 individuals trapped during the incident, though sources claim casualty figures may exceed 100. An ongoing security operation seeks to assess the full scale of the attack and ensure safety for remaining residents.

Efforts to reach officials for further comments on the recovery mission were unsuccessful.
