The Acting Chairman of the Katsina State Chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Surajo Amadu Rufa’i, was killed by suspected bandits in a brutal attack on his residence at Mairana village in Kusada Local Government Area.
The attack occurred late Saturday night at around 11:30 p.m., leaving two others dead and several injured. The assailants also abducted Rufa’i’s two wives and daughter, who is an undergraduate student. Reports indicate that one of the abducted wives was later released.
Sources from the village revealed that the attackers stormed Rufa’i’s residence, shooting him and taking the women. The deceased and others killed in the attack were buried on Sunday morning in accordance with Islamic rites.
Confirming the incident, the Katsina State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, stated that police operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Kusada, responded to the scene after receiving a distress call.
“Upon arrival, the victim was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead by the attending doctor,” Aliyu said.
He further disclosed that the police tracked the attackers to Kofa village, engaging them in a gun duel that forced the bandits to retreat due to the operatives’ superior firepower.
“Unfortunately, during the bandits’ escape, two persons were fatally shot. Police efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects and rescue the remaining victims. Updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” the statement read.
The attack has sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents expressing fear over the rising insecurity in the area. The Miyetti Allah group has yet to release an official statement regarding the tragic incident.
