The Akwa Ibom State government has announced a new minimum wage of N80,000 for its employees, reaffirming its commitment to improving workers’ welfare.
Commissioner of Information, Ini Ememobong, shared the development on Wednesday in Uyo, stating that the wage increase reflects the government’s dedication to the well-being of its workforce.
“The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, has declared that the state will implement a new minimum wage of N80,000 for all employees,” Ememobong said.
To ensure a smooth transition, Governor Eno has formed an implementation committee tasked with designing the rollout plan for the wage increase. The committee, chaired by Elder Effiong Essien, the Head of Civil Service, has been given one month to submit its report.
The 15-member committee includes representatives from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), among others.
