Operatives from the FCT Police Command arrested 27-year-old Magaji Adamu on January 20, 2024, during a routine patrol in Abuja. Adamu, a graduate of Gidan Waya College of Education in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, is accused of transporting cartons of nitrous oxide—commonly known as laughing gas—for illegal purposes.
FCT Police Commissioner Olatunji Rilwan Disu disclosed that this is the fourth arrest of Adamu for similar offences. According to the commissioner, the suspect claimed that a man named Mr. Danladi regularly instructed him to pick up packages near a police station in Jabi, Abuja, offering him N5,000 per delivery. Initially, Adamu said he believed the gas was for hospital use, but upon realizing its true nature, he cooperated with the police, leading them to additional quantities at his residence.
The police continue to investigate the source of these deliveries as part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on the illegal trade of nitrous oxide in the region.
