Dangote Group President, Aliko Dangote, has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to ending Nigeria’s raw sugar importation through its Sugar Backward Integration Programme.
Speaking at the 14th Gateway International Trade Fair in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Dangote, represented by Regional Director Tunde Mabogunje, said the group has invested over $700 million in land, machinery, and infrastructure to boost local production.
“Our goal is to ensure Nigeria stops importing raw sugar by intensifying our backward integration efforts,” he said. “We are also investing in agriculture to support food security.”
Dangote highlighted the company’s role in export financing, with its cement, fertiliser, and refinery businesses supplying global and African markets.
Ogun Assembly Speaker Oludaisi Elemide commended Dangote Group’s contributions and urged it to enhance environmental sustainability.
