Tinubu Extends Customs Boss’s Tenure by One Year

0

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

This was disclosed on Thursday in a statement by presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga. According to the announcement, Adeniyi’s tenure—originally set to end on August 31, 2025—will now continue until August 2026.

The Presidency explained that the extension is to allow Adeniyi complete key reforms already underway in the Customs Service. These include the agency’s modernisation efforts, the rollout of the National Single Window Project, and Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

President Tinubu commended Adeniyi’s leadership and dedication, expressing confidence that the extra year will help the service deliver better on its core duties of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and securing Nigeria’s borders.
