An agent of the Labour Party (LP), Spencer Dominic, was slapped by APC loyalists at polling unit 027, Yaya Abatan, Ogba, during Saturday’s local government election in Lagos.
The incident occurred in Ifako-Ijaiye as APC’s chairmanship candidate, Usman Akanbi Hamzat, arrived to vote. Trouble started when Dominic refused to leave his spot behind the electoral officers, prompting some APC supporters to assault him.
Eyewitnesses said security officers at the scene did nothing to stop the attack.
Dominic said he stood behind the officers to monitor voter cards, but APC supporters claimed he had no right to question the chairman’s identity or stand that close.
The situation was calmed by bystanders, while voter turnout across Lagos remained low.
