The Sokoto State Government on Sunday clarified that Governor Ahmed Aliyu had no involvement in the donation of a vehicle and shop to a Kaduna-based TikToker, Rahama Sa’idu.

The clarification came after a video of the gesture circulated online and generated reactions from netizens.

In a statement issued by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa, the government said the donation was a personal gesture by one Sanin Jaman in appreciation of the TikToker’s support for the Ahmed Aliyu-led administration.

The statement stressed that the gesture had no connection with the governor or the state government.

“I want to make it categorically clear that the said donation has nothing to do with Governor Ahmed Aliyu. It was purely personal between the giver and the beneficiary,” the statement said.

The government warned individuals against making similar gestures in the name of the governor or the Sokoto State Government without proper consultation, noting that there are more impactful ways donations can directly benefit citizens.

According to the statement, “The administration welcomes genuine support from well-meaning individuals in key priority areas under its nine-point SMART agenda, including tackling insecurity, youth empowerment, education, healthcare delivery, environmental sanitation, and support for vulnerable groups such as orphans, widows and persons living with disabilities.”

The statement added that many displaced persons, particularly those affected by banditry in the state, are still in dire need of assistance despite ongoing government interventions.

It urged affluent individuals and organisations to complement government efforts to improve citizens’ welfare.
