Senator Mohammed Sani Musa of Niger East Senatorial District has said he would have ran against the incumbent Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago in 2027 if not for zoning arrangement in the state.
Senator Musa made this known while flagging off his foreign scholarship programme for his constituents at the APC secretariat opposite the State Old Secretariat in Minna.
“We are one broom. But who are the people building APC? Am I not one of those building APC? I have a question. We are in one party. Our party does not stop anyone from contesting.
“Today, let me tell you, I swear by Allah, if not that we had zoned the governorship seat, I would have contested for the seat,” he said.
Musa accused some people he had helped to win elections of going about to discredit him, saying that he remains the strongest APC member and politician in the state.
Senator Musa ‘s reaction came few weeks after the governor told APC supporters and Suleja Emirate to change the Senator if he is not serving their interest.
In a viral video sighted by Daily Trust, the governor had said “313”, referring to Senator Mohammed Sani Musa, “it is compulsory for you to do well”.
“If he fails to do well for you, we should change him. But if he changes, we should leave him and I know he would change.”
The latest comment by Senator Musa has since sparked political conversations and debates across the three Senatorial Districts of Niger State, with some analysts and APC stakeholders saying the abolition of the prevailing zoning arrangement would allow good leaders emerge in the state in 2027.
