The Senate on Wednesday approved the sum of N1.48 trillion as the 2024 budget for Rivers State.
The approval followed the presentation of a report by the Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Rivers Emergency Rule, chaired by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central).
Bamidele explained that the budget prioritises critical sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, and security.
A breakdown of the figures shows that N120.8 billion is allocated for debt servicing, N287.38 billion for recurrent spending, and N1.077 trillion for capital projects.
The budget is expected to address urgent needs in the state amid its ongoing political situation.
