Retired Police Officers Protest in Jos, Say They’ve Been Abandoned

Retired police officers in Plateau State protested at the state police headquarters in Jos on Monday, accusing the government of abandoning them after years of service.

Dressed in black and carrying placards, the retirees condemned their inclusion in the Contributory Pension Scheme, saying it has left many of them in poverty and battling illnesses.

“We are treated like we don’t matter,” said their chairman, Ayuba Gora. “Some of us earn as little as ₦15,000 monthly. We can’t take care of ourselves or our families.”

He said many are suffering from conditions like hypertension and diabetes, and described the situation as frustrating and dehumanising.

The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, received their complaint and promised to forward it to the Inspector General of Police.
