The death toll from Wednesday’s attacks on five villages in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State has climbed to 52.

Chairman of the Bokkos Cultural Development Council, Farmasum Fuddang, said the number increased as more bodies were recovered following the deployment of security forces. The victims were found in Pyakmal, Ruwi, Hurti, Manguna, and Daffo. He said search efforts are still ongoing.

Several suspects have been arrested in connection with the attacks. Brigadier-General Gakji Shipi (rtd), security adviser to the governor, described the killings as unprovoked and said some individuals were trying to fuel unrest for selfish reasons.

Troops under Operation Safe Haven foiled further attacks in the area, recovering weapons and motorcycles after engaging the attackers.

The Plateau Youth Council has called for calm, urging residents to cooperate with security agencies. Former lawmaker Dachung Bagos also condemned the killings and renewed calls for the creation of state police.
