A cocoa farmer, identified as Adegoke, has been arrested in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, for allegedly beating two suspected thieves to death.

According to local sources, the suspects, reportedly from a neighbouring community, were caught on Adegoke’s farm after allegedly stealing produce. One of the suspects was also accused of previously stealing Adegoke’s motorcycle, which had fueled the farmer’s frustration.

Witnesses claim Adegoke’s wife alerted him to the trespassers, prompting him to apprehend two of the four individuals allegedly involved. The farmer reportedly beat the suspects severely, leading to their deaths and sparking communal tensions in the area.

The police spokesperson, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed Adegoke’s arrest and his transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Akure. She stated that some community members claimed the suspects were on the farm to collect snails rather than steal produce.

“We are investigating the matter to determine the facts and ensure justice is served,” Odunlami-Omisanya assured.
