Kenneth Okonkwo, former spokesperson for Peter Obi’s 2023 campaign, says the African Democratic Congress (ADC) must field a northern presidential candidate in 2027 if it wants to defeat President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking on Channels TV, Okonkwo said any southern candidate would only boost Tinubu’s chances. “If you bring someone from the South, Tinubu wins outright,” he warned.
He said 2027 requires strategy, not sentiment, and added that a northern candidate with national appeal, paired with a southern running mate, offers the best chance.
Okonkwo also claimed Peter Obi won in 2023 but was denied victory and warned that such a result could repeat without better political planning. He resigned from the Labour Party in July 2024 over internal crises.
