Nigeria’s electricity grid has reportedly collapsed again.
The grid was reported to have collapsed around 2:42 am on Monday, April 15th, 2024, dropping power generation to just 64.70megawatt with only one generation company, Ibom power, active.
Several power distribution companies have confirmed the collapse. The Jos distribution company, in a statement, said efforts are being deployed to restore power across the country. The statement read, “The current outage being experienced within our franchise States is a result of loss of power supply from the national grid. The loss of power supply from the national grid occurred in the early hours at about 0242 hours today, Monday, 15 April 2024, hence the loss of power supply on all our feeders.
“We hope to restore normal power supply to our esteemed customers as soon as the grid supply is restored to normalcy. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we strive to serve you better.”
This latest collapse comes less than a month after the last one that occurred in March.
According to data from the independent system operator (ISO), a branch of the transmission company of Nigeria, this is the sixth collapse in 2024 and 140th time since power distribution was privatized in 2013.
