The Delta State Police Command has arrested Blessing Jonathan for allegedly throwing her 10-month-old baby, Prevail, into a river.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe revealed that Jonathan initially reported her baby as missing. However, investigations uncovered that she had succumbed to societal pressure labeling her child a “bastard” and confessed after the baby’s body was found.
Jonathan, abandoned by the baby’s father, Ugo, expressed remorse, saying, “I regret everything. He was my only child.”
SP Edafe urged the public to choose empathy over stigmatization, highlighting how harmful words can drive desperate actions. Investigations are ongoing.
