The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, has tendered her resignation after barely 45 days in office.
Meranda was elected to preside over the state legislature by her colleagues following the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa on January 13, over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.
This development has left the state in a political limbo, as Obasa has challenged his removal.
Following Meranda’s resignation, Obasa has been reinstated as Speaker.
Prior to today’s plenary, a closed-door meeting took place within the assembly premises, involving Obasa, Meranda, and the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Cornelius Ojelabi.
However, Meranda has been re-elected to deputize Obasa, a position she held prior to his impeachment.
