The Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday passed a vote of confidence in Mojisola Meranda, dismissing alleged plans to reinstate Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker.
Legislative workers staged a protest against Meranda’s removal, clashing with DSS operatives who had earlier sealed her office.
Obasa, removed on January 13 over corruption allegations, is challenging his ousting in court. Amid tight security, lawmakers forced their way into the chamber, where 32 members backed Meranda’s leadership.
“Madam Speaker, we pass a vote of confidence in you,” a lawmaker declared.
With this, the Assembly has firmly rejected Obasa’s return.
