The Yobe State Hisbah Board has destroyed more than 170 bottles of alcohol, valued at approximately N450,000, following a recent crackdown in Gashua, the headquarters of Bade Local Government Area.
The Chairman of Bade LGA, Ibrahim Babagana Yurema, led the destruction and reaffirmed the council’s commitment to eradicating alcohol consumption and trading within the area. He stated that the crackdown was part of efforts to address concerns about intoxication among youths, emphasizing that Islam forbids the consumption of alcohol and other intoxicants.
The confiscated alcohol was seized during a Hisbah patrol at a popular hotel in Gashua. According to the Yobe North Zonal Commandant of the Hisbah Board, Malam Isah Ibrahim, a Sharia Court found the seller guilty and sentenced them to prison. The court also ordered the destruction of the seized bottles, marking a continued effort to enforce Sharia law in the state.
