A bridge along the Shendam–Garkawa road in Plateau State has collapsed after days of heavy rainfall, cutting off access for residents and farmers in the area.
The incident occurred in Shendam Local Government Area, with locals saying the collapse followed three straight days of downpour. The bridge connects several communities and is vital for transporting farm produce.
Wayu Bamga, a resident, said the bridge had earlier collapsed last year and was poorly repaired. “It didn’t last. We’re suffering now. The government should step in urgently,” he said.
Another local, Nanlong Nyas, added: “Even after the latest repair last week, the bridge gave way again after the rains. It’s hard to cross with our goods.”
Residents and commuters are calling on authorities to rebuild the bridge properly to restore movement and ease their hardship.
