The federal government has launched a new initiative to address barriers to safe water and sanitation by inaugurating the Annual Water Quality Conference in Abuja.
With the theme “Safe Water for Sustainable Public Health,” the conference brought together key stakeholders to discuss solutions for improving water quality management in Nigeria.
Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, highlighted that 37% of households rely on boreholes and tube wells, while 25% still use unsafe water sources. He also noted that access to proper sanitation remains a challenge, with open defecation still widespread.
Despite these issues, the government is adopting modern technologies and collaborating with local and international partners to ensure access to clean and safe water nationwide.
