Three people have been confirmed dead and several others injured following an explosion at Sabon-Pegi community in Mashegu LGA of Niger State.
The blast, which occurred around 7:30 am on Sunday, was caused by a “nakiya” explosive reportedly stored in a rented apartment by a local artisan miner, Yushehu, according to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA).
The explosion destroyed over 40 houses and vehicles. Among the casualties were a woman, a man, and a young boy who died on the spot. Local sources fear the death toll may rise as some victims remain critically injured.
Emergency responders are conducting an assessment and providing aid to affected residents. Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious as investigations continue.
